Located a little north of Old Town Scottsdale, the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is a one-of-a-kind experience, particularly for the railroad enthusiast. There are several exhibits including actual trains and carriages retired from active service, but each with a fascinating and varied history. For example, Magma Arizona Railroad Engine No. 6 hauled copper ore from Superior to Magma, Arizona for 38 years. Built in October 1907 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, the hard working 2-6-0 engine served the mining railroads of Arizona for 54 years before being retired in January 1960 (from the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park website).
There are rides, including a 1-mile track around and through the park, pulled by a scale model of a train from the Colorado Narrow-Guage Railroad. There is also a carousel, a 10,000 square foot model railroad building with some amazingly detailed models. Best of all, admission to the park is free, and the rides and exhibits are a very nominal charge.
As the weather begins to cool, come and check out the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. It’s a unique Scottsdale experience, and an enjoyable couple of hours…or stay for the day and enjoy a picnic with the family.

Train rides run every half hour during the weekdays and continously on the weekends. The park is open every day of the year except Christmas and Thanksgiving.
